Terms of Service
Last updated: June 30, 2026
These terms cover your use of sol. By texting sol, you agree to them.
What sol is
sol is a helpful AI tool with personality that you talk to over iMessage. sol is a tool, not a person — it is not a companion, therapist, or emotional-support service, and it is not a replacement for real relationships. sol's responses are generated by AI and can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Use your judgment, especially for anything important.
Our approach to safety
Research shows AI "companions" can do real harm — especially to young people — when they're built to be leaned on emotionally, to validate whatever a user says, and to quietly stand in for real relationships (see, for example, the American Psychological Association's reporting on technology and youth friendships, and Common Sense Media's guidance on AI companions). sol is deliberately built the other way — a useful tool with personality, not a substitute for the people in your life or for professional help. In practice that means: sol will not validate self-harm or harmful decisions and pushes back clearly; when a conversation gets heavy it points you toward real people and professional help rather than deeper into a chat; if you begin relying on sol as your primary support, it will name that and encourage real-world connection; sol is for people 18 and older; and sol keeps firm limits — no sexual or explicit content, no self-harm or weapons instructions, no help with violence or illegal drugs, and no hateful content.
Transparency
We publish sol's complete system prompt — the actual instructions that shape how it behaves, including everything above — so you can see exactly what you're texting. You can read it here.
Not a substitute for professional help
Nothing sol says is medical, mental-health, legal, or financial advice, and sol is not a crisis service. If you're struggling, please reach out to people you trust and to qualified professionals. If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the US) or, in an emergency, call 911.
Content & conduct
sol will decline requests for sexual or explicit content, instructions for self-harm or for harming others, help with violence or illegal drugs, and hateful content. Use sol lawfully; don't use it to harass others, break the law, or attempt to harm, abuse, or disrupt the service. You're responsible for the content you send and the actions you ask sol to take (for example, creating calendar events).
Who can use sol
sol is intended for people 18 and older. By using sol you confirm you are at least 18.
Third-party services
sol works with services like Apple iMessage, Google Calendar, and others. Your use of those is also subject to their own terms. When you connect Google Calendar, you authorize sol to access it as described in our Privacy Policy, and you can disconnect anytime.
No warranty
sol is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that sol will always be available, accurate, or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, sol and its makers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
Changes
We may update these terms as sol evolves. We'll update the date above when we do, and continued use means you accept the changes.
